As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 725 people, 299 households, and 200 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,351.7 people per square mile (518.4/km²). There were 339 housing units at an average density of 632.0 per square mile (242.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 95.03% White, 0.41% African American, 0.69% Native American, 0.41% Asian, 1.52% from other races, and 1.93% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.00% of the population.
There were 299 households out of which 34.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.5% were married couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.8% were non-families. 29.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.99.
In the city the population was spread out with 28.4% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 16.8% who were 65 years of age or older.
